Crocus bulbs..

Hello everyone ! :-)

can one or two of you lovely gardenig folk help me please ??
a simple question. when and how deep should i plant crocus bulbs ??
im not interested in creating anything decorative, just getting fresh blooms in the late winter/early spring.

i intend to plant in the lawn. its has pretty good drainage and never gets treated with chemicals.
any help would be appreciated...

Get em in now....2-3" deep (approx 3 times the depth of the bulb )

For something a little different, plant some varied tulip bulbs about 6 inches deep, over which you plant the croci, as hammerman says... the crocus will emerge fairly early and die back by the time the tulips emerge... nice effect...

i was gonna plant them deeper than the 2-3" suggested by hammerman so im happy i asked !!! :-)
Clanad, as much as i like the idea of planting tulips, it wont work im afraid. ive got a mad dog that would trample tulips. she isnt too keen on the cold so im hoping the crocus will escape her !!!

I too ,have planted crocus in the lawn, to one side of them but not mixed in with them I have planted snowdrops. This looks good and flowering early should not cause your dog any problems! I'm sure you'll get a lovely display

Don't forget that naturalised snowdrops look good too as do early narcissus such as "feburary gold" and "minnow"

You can then possibly plant some muscari and chinodoxia for a later show.

And....as you really won't be able to mow the bulb area until late June....to allow the bulbs to die down, why not plant some wild primroses and cowslips in there too for a superb spring show.
