Rice/Pasta/Potatoe Alternative
7 Answers
Evening,
Generally I'm a meat/fish and salad kind of girl throughout the summer.
Winter comes round and I get in to the warm, comforting foods (chilli, curries, stir frys etc...) but I'm looking for an alternative to rice or potatoes or pasta to go with them.
Any ideas?
Cheers

A few butter beans mashed with a touch of garlic and lemon juice is fab,
Cous cous takes 3 mins and can be flavoured witha stack of stuff - and is nice and filling too.
Try a couple of the different rice varities if you are bored of rice - red rice is a nice nutty version - black looks very exotic; green - rice of the Emperors!, or use a blend, and cook in stock for extra taste.
Chickpeas and sweet potato mash in place of tatties.
Or a pumpkin is a good one too - or just any squash - try one of the little round ones - stab with a knife round the outside, take the top off and de-seed, then microwave for 8 mins or so. - serve with a dash of double cream and loads of black pepper....
