Apparently reading Harry Potter books is now not only going to turn every one into a devil worshipping heathen it's going to make them gay too. I usually avoid the daily mail but I've seen this elsewhere too and with the little knowledge I already have about the evangelical right wing in America it doesn't surprise me at all.
Do you think these groups really truely believe that reading a book can make someone homosexual? I just can't get my head round it!

Its ridiculous, but at the same time have you ever seen those documentries on tv about american religous groups, some times its just all a little too crazy to believe.
In answer to annavc's question, i think it Doesn't really matter whether JKR has suddenly decided Dumbledore might be gay. If kids are going to grow up to be gay i very much doubt it will be because they were influenced by Dumbledore. And even if they were gay - so what?! it's not the end of the world. Better that they be gay than a rapist or axe murderer. These religious fundamentalist Homophobes need to get their heads in order. They seem to think a person being gay is a terrible awful thing, when as far as i can see there's nothing wrong with it at all.
As for the occult thing - its a fantasy book, not the Satanic Bible. Witches don't even believe in satan, and wizzards don't exist. I remember getting into an argument with our vicar's wife once during church, we used to have a Christmas gift service where all the kids would bring toys and they'd be delivered to the local children's home. One child bought a pair of lovely plush wizzards in funky purple robes, and she shouted at me for putting them on the altar with all the other toys. And this was in the days before Harry Potter. I dread to think what her closed little mind makes of thse books. She probably made all the kids in the village burn them in a big pile.
