Cautions / Job applications
My partner's ex got him arrested 3yr ago for "burglary" - from the marital home 2 weeks after they seperated. They were married at the time but had just seperated and he went back for some of his belongings. However, she claimed he stole personal stuff belonging to her (which he didn't of course) nonetheless, police pressed ahead and advised him to take a Caution, which he did.
He is applying for a managerial job in construction, and has been asked to state if he has any criminal convictions, which are not "spent"? He could be subject to a basic CRB check? Should he put this on his appn form at risk he may not get considered? After all it wasn't exactly a cut/dry case?

A caution is not a conviction. If he's only asked about 'convictions', there's absolutely no reason why he should declare it.
