Charlemagne's horse was named Rabican, after the famous mount of mythical figure Astolpho. Legend says that Astolpho's Rabican was the offspring of the wind, as his sire, and fire as his dam, and that he lived only on air. A suitably inspiring steed, and an ideal name for Charlemagne's horse.
