What Should we do??
11 Answers
My mum thinks that my sister and i are fat and she wants the family to go on a 'diet' like system...
When i brought this up in a conversation with one of my freinds she was astonished as to her i look extremly thin close to anerexia (we both are not ) ..
we are not sure whether our mum is joking or not this makes us feel worried when we are hungry and we want to eat...
what should we do???

Also ask your mum if she was being serious and do not feel worried when you are hungry, if you want to eat then go and have something. People are becoming too obsessed with how everyone looks, as long as you and your sister are happy then that is all that matters.
Perhaps your mum is worried about her weight.
It might make her feel better if the whole family supported her and she might think it was easier if everyone went on a diet. If that's the case she probably wants to avoid temptation so everyone is banned from cakes and biccies.
Why not encourage her like you would a friend? Help her choose flattering clothes. Be excited when she fits into those jeans that were too small a couple of months ago.
Ask her who her film or pop star role model would be, taking into account her age. Would you really like your mother to dress or look like Posh Spice?

When you're all in a good mood, calculate your BMI. See the BBC Healthy Living website. You'll probably find you're all within the limits. That means you're healthy.
If one of you is overweight, the hardest thing is to start to exercise.Try the BBC Health website. for some advice.

You are definitely not overweight then.Maybe she just doesn't want you to get into the habit of snacking on unhealthy foods etc. If your mum seriously thinks you are both fat at those weights then she needs to be educated, maybe show her a site on the internet that sets out healthy weight ranges for women and teens.
Hi Ice-Maiden,even if they were 5ft tall their weight would still be quite low.I am 5ft4in and weigh 8.5st and my doctor is always telling me I am at the lower end of the healthy range. They would only have to worry if they are both about 3ft tall.lol.

Hi Worried14,
Your weight sounds perfectly fine to me and i think the advice so far is good, tell your mum where to get off and eat if you are hungry!!
My Mum was always moaning about my weight and putting me on diets when i was younger and i'm not joking, i am obsessed with my weight now, feel guilty about eating anything that isn't a carrot stick and generally have no confidence in my body image at all- mostly because of her conditioning me to think i was fat.
Please don't let this happen to you, maybe you can compromise, there is no harm in eating healthily but at the end of the day, if you are hungry then you should eat.
Take care hun xx
