TV Horror series

A tv series Years and years ago - probably in the 90s. It may have been called something..angel (?). Went like this:
An Amreican policeman was sent to hell because he shot the man who raped his wife. About a hundred demons had escaped from hell at the same time. A deal was made that he would be released from hell if he tracked down the demons (who were in human form) and sent them back to hell. He sent them back to hell by shooting them in the eyes. His body, he noticed was covered with symbolic tatoos - one for each demon. A tatoo disappeared for each demon he dispached. The devil occasionaly turned up to mock him that he was bound to fail and he would get him back. This series went on for weeks - and darn it I missed the last one
Question is: what was it called and did the cop ever get released from his contract and dispach the last demon. Its never been repeated as far as I can tell.

The show was called Brimstone. From what I can remember it was axed in America although earlier this year the full series was shown.
