It is called the blue screen of death and there are lots of reasons for it: failing hard drive, failing memory (RAM), poorly written device driver, poorly written application or a virus are 5 such reasons. Sometimes it may give you an indication as to the problem (eg usbhub.sys has caused an exception in etc etc means that the usbhub.sys file probably needs updating).

Cheers for letting me know what it is, but have you got any idea's how i go about taking the next step as i really am clueless about how to go about it, i'm on windows xp if that's any help, cheers.
I'd give you the Microsoft Windows XP help cite URL, but obviously that won't assist you since you can't get on the machine.  You do have the restore CD set that came with the machine, don't you?  You need to run the restore and reinstall XP.  You'll lose all data, though.  You did back up important information, didn"t you?
