His Dark Materials Tril, Pulman
5 Answers
Hi
I have ordered the Philip Pulman trilogy for my hubby as an xmas pressie. He's a 27 year old Harry Potter fan and has read the books several times. Since the final Potter book was published he's been wandering round the house like a lost soul.
However, now that I've ordered the books I'm worried that they're going to be too childish and not have the adult appeal that Harry Potter has.
What do you think? Do you have any other suggestions?
I'm hoping that Pulman will help to fill the Rowling-shaped hole in my hubby's life.
TIA x

Don't worry - they are far superior to HP and work on many levels - a great tale of adventure that encompasses so many aspects of life - religion, war, death, first love and sex, vivisection, murder, friendship, loyalty, separation, the soul, courage, madness, theft, manipulation, exploration, loneliness, evil, angels, God.. and more and more... the list is amazing!
He'd like the Darren Shan books - a series of 12 about a boy who gets mixed up with vampires.
Aimed at teenage readers but I read them all one after the other and thoroughly enjoyed them (I'm a 40 year old mum!)
He's also written the Lord loss trilogy which although I haven't read them are also supposed to be very good.
The Anthony Horowitz stories about Alex Rider the junior spy are an excellent read too, a bit longer than the Darren Shan ones if he likes something to get his teeth into! I think there are 6, Stormbreaker being the first in the series.
