insurance - no claims protected
I had an accident last year and I accepted responsibility. Luckily my insurance has a no claims protection so I was surprised to get my policy statement for next year - premium has gone up 25% - is this normal procedure?

My premium is not protected and is whatever they want to charge.
I thought paying the extra for this every year was a way of allowing me one accident without punishing me, not true..!
Is it worth haggling with them or trying elsewhere? I'm with Direct Line.

well you could be punished more if you didnt have it.
say you premium was 500 with no accidents but you had a NCB (protected) of 30%. total bill 350
the next year after an accident it goes up to 700 because youre a risk but with NCB of 30% you only pay 490
yhes it will have gone up but if you hadnt protected the bonus youd be paying 700 not 490
what you are protecting is the discount >NOT the premium
