Venice or Verona or....?

I need to meet my girlfriend in Italy next month. She is going to be based in Milan but she wants us to visit another city. Having been to Venice I suggested it to her as its about 2 hours and 30 mins by train from Milan. I was wondering if that is the best place to see? There is also verona between milan and venice.
I just want her to be happy and for us to have a romantic time!

I'd go for Venice every time. I was a bit bored in Verona and would not go back.

Verona is a nice little place - very pretty but very small. You can see everything in 2/3 hours. If you were staying at Lake Garda I would say that Verona is great for a half day trip but if you are going for a romantic weekend then stay in Milan or go to Venice.

if it's just a day or two Verona would be good (is there still opera on in the amphitheatre in the evenings?) while you mightn't see enough of Venice. For longer than that, I'd go to Venice, even if I'd seen it before.
