Ever had those multiple choice exams where you had to put a thick pen line between two marks, for either A, B, C or D?
All of those marks are then on a sheet of paper. This paper can be fed into a scanner, and software on the computer can read which lines are matched with which question number and which answer letter.
Much faster than doing it by hand.
