With regard to 1d, 'ascult' is obviously an anagram and 'shock' presumably the anagram indicator, but how does 'Mat' relate to 'outing'?

'Outing' Matt Lucas would surely be overkill!

I think probably the 'outing' is the anagram indicator but that doesn't explain why 'shock' is related to 'mat'.
