My broadband connection is via a wireless BT HH, and the desktop works fine. I would now like to network my laptop into the system - will a Netgear 802.11g PC card work?
Also, am I stuck with the HH, or can I use another wireless router?

Sorry for the ignorance!
Shaun.

There is no need to buy a router - you already have the wireless home hub.

The netgear card will work fine if your laptop has the right connections for it. How old is the laptop?

Thanks for the quick reply Ethel.
The Laptop is only 2 yrs old and has a pc slot, so no problem there.

The query about the Home Hub - I appreciate that it is a router - I wondered if I could replace it with another make and still retain BT BB service? i.e. is BTBB limited to the Home Hub?

Shaun.
If your laptop is two years old I would be extremely surprised if it is not wifi enabled as standard. Are you sure it isn't?

Shaun, I don't know anything about bt home hubs but I am struggling to see the point of using a different router. Am I missing something as a different router will only do exactly what you can do now.

Thanks Ethel for perservering with me!
I haven't checked the laptop yet, as at present I am off-shore for two weeks, and the computer is at home, so it may well be enabled. I was just asking about a PC card in case it wasn't.
As for the HH, I am frequently having to reset it, and power down/power up due to losing connection. This seems to be a common fault with Home Hubs, going by comments on other forums, so I was thinking of replacing rather than a protracted battle with BT (via the sub-continent)
If, as you say a generic router will do the job, then I have a much wider choice.

hi gastwo,

this shouldn't happen with the hub and it should be replaced by BT if it is still in warranty - is it the hub connection that drops or is it the bb connection - if you replace it with anither router you could have the same issue!

however, you can use any other wireless router to do the same job, it doesn't need to be a bt one to use the btbb service.

hope this helps
A xXx

Someone else on night shift?
Hi Petes_dragon.
The problems with the HH - occasionally all the lights are on, but nothing connects. I guess I could have it replaced by BT (oh, its not BT... its Openreach, a BT company...) but I've read several stories about others with HH problems, and I dont fancy going through all the hassle of complaining, returning, etc.
Thanks for your interest,
Shaun.
