Hello all - Next door are constantly playing very loud music at stupid times even at 3.30am - I have to get up at 5.30am!

Our bedroom is at the opposite side of the house and its waking me up!

I would like to write them a letter about this but im unsure of what to write - I am at my wits end but dont want to be too rude about it.

Any info on Laws about niose pollution that I could include - or general things that I should mention would be a great help.

If it makes any difference both houses are privetly owned - mines lease hold - so I presume theres is too.

Please help before I do something silly to retaliate.

Have a look on hear. It may take a while for this to be resolved but it's worth finding out if they rent or own the property by looking on land registry. It costs about 3.50 to look it up. If they rent complain to the landlord if they are owners the council will most probably request dates and times of them making the noise so worth while keepinga diary of the date time it starts and finishes. It's also worth speaking to other neighbours and getting them to do the same thing. Good luck, nothing worse than inconsiderate neighbours.
Contact your local council they will have a Dept who deal specifically with this type of complaint.

They will investigate, issue them with warnings and then court proceedings if required.

I wouldnt try to tackle them yourself.

Good luck.
I had a situation like this with my neighbour and it took a year to resolve. I had to keep a diary for 2 weeks and send it to the Council (environmental office). After that whenever the music started I would ring the 24 hour environmental service helpline and an env..health officer would come round (usually after an hour of calling them) and take a decibel reading. This went on for several months but worked. My neighbour was taken to court and prosecuted under the Noise Nuisance Act.
I feel for you I really do, had a neighbout in my flats just like it, played his music all night and the base would come through the floor, sometimes I;d put my music on loud then when he wanted to go to bed it was tough that mine was on. Once I got my door stuck in flat and was banging at it trying to get it open and he had the nerve to shout shut the F**k up through my door! I asked him politely first of all then he was sent letters from the landlord to turn music off by 11, in the end I was so upset I got quite a large guy who's well known round town to have a word. It stopped him for a while and now luckily he's moved out.
my neighbour should be evicted within the next 2 weeks for doing exactly the same.

her house is a housing association property so that perhaps makes it easier although we've been complaining for 2 years

I have huge Subs and base tubes ect - If I wanted to I could make there bl00dy windows shake - Ive also got a banging 3600W sub powered by a 4000W amp in my car - I NEVER play my music in the estate.

But its making me so mad I can see myself reversing up too there front door - opening my boot and letting rip - but that wouldnt be fair on the other neighbours - and I bet id get reported.

Thanks for the advise so far everyone.
Before you report/aurally abuse them why not explain your problem and ask politely if they could turn the music down a touch - long shot but it might work
And if it doesn't send 4gets mate around - they were asked nicekly after all

The trouble with asking them to turn it down is - Normaly during the day we are both at work - when im home I presume they are donw the pub or at a club or at a mates house - as I never see them - When I know they are home (when they are playing the loud music) its 2am and im in bed - I dont fancy getting up and dressed at 2am to knock on there door to ask them to turn it down to be met with a house full of drunks.

So thats why I wanted to write them a letter - to give them a chance to stop it before I report them.

To tell them if it doesnt stop then I WILL report them.
I tried talking to my neighbour at 2am when she first started playing up but she was very rude and aggressive.

Speak to the council. Also speak to other residents and see how they feel about it. You can do more if there are more of you.
Do this, when they go to sleep, you start your music, 5am sounds about right. Then write them a note saying that whenever you hear their music after say 11pm you will start yours at 5 am. tada! fight fire with fire!
Talk to them first, even if it's 3am - from what you say you're awake anyway. If they ignore you then go to the Council.

It seems a little odd though to be boasting how loud you can turn your own music system up in your house and your car. It negates your argument somewhat to be saying that you could 'make their windows shake'.

If I want to play loud music - I drive to the Moors to blast it out.

I have the sub ect that I could connct to the house system if I wanted to.

As I stated - I dont play loud music in the estate.
I really do feel for you yelofox & if we were having the same problems with our neighbours, I'd write along these lines:

Dear Neighbour,

This is very difficult for me to write, as I don't wish to make waves, or for it to lead to a confrontation.

However, the loud music coming from your house in the early hours of the morning is disturbing my sleep pattern, bearing in mind that I have to get up for work at 05:30am.

I would really appreciate it if your music is either switched off at a reasonable time in the evening, or is turned down to a tolerable level, allowing me (&/or any other neighbours in close proximity) to sleep undisturbed.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter & I look forward to a peaceful & friendly outcome.

Kind regards,

Mr & Mrs Smudge.

I would keep a copy of the letter & if they didn't want to play ball, I'd then contact the environment dept of the council.

Good luck.

It's worth noting that the council will want a list of times, dates and duration of the loud music so I'd start keeping an accurate diary of the noise. Best of luck
I agree pug, although I assumed yelofox was already doing that. If you're not yelofox I'd start from today, as pug says, the Coucil will only ask you to start doing so.

Hope the letter helps in some way.
*council - rushing to go off & eat my dinner!

Thanks Smudge,
I will start keeping a record and write a polite letter.
Hopefully they might turn it down if not off.
You're welcome yelofox - good luck....
