My poorly Whiskey...
15 Answers
Good afternoon! My cat is really poorly at the moment. He's not himself at all, he's not usually a very cuddly cat, but spent over 4 hours in a ball on my lap last night. He's usually a right grumpy thing.
Anyway, his third eyelids have closed up at least a third of his eyes. My mum took him to the vets' yesterday for a blood test, but they've said they won't know anything for a few days. He's quite old: 14, but has never been ill at all, really. I was wondering if anyone else had anything similar with one of their cats, please? Thanks, ws x

Being male he will be really pathetic when he is ill - my Frankie is just the same.
I hope that it is nothing serious and it won't be long before he is back to normal and feeling good.

i'm sorry to hear about your little beloved. let us wait for the vet to report back.
i'm being realistic here when i say that he may just be coming to the end of his life. even though he has been very healthy all this time - there comes a time when the body just gives up. 14 is a grans age for a cat and i'm sure you have had a terrific life with him.
i do not want to be a prophet of doom & i hope i am dreadfully wrong, but like i said i'm just being realistic
my 'saavik' was 13 when she decided to go - she just lay down one day and that was it. i hurt for quite a while but eventually one accepts these things and just goes on remembering the good times
my thoughts are with you ..... good luck

Hope he's feeling better soon. A couple of years back my younger cat went very quiet for 2 or 3 days and didn't want to move or eat. I was very worried but she was back to her usual self after that. They can't tell you what's wrong so the only indication you have is if they start acting out of character. At least you have taken steps to find out the cause and I am sure he'll be back to his grumpy self very soon

Thanks so much, excelsior.
The vet called about an hour ago and said that all the blood tests have come back negative, so he's hoping it's just something viral. Whiskey still doesn't seem well or himself, but we've been told to take him back on Monday if he shows no signs of improvement.
Thanks again for your replies. :o) x x x

Aww, thank you, bensmum! I've been at my mum's for the past four hours and he hasn't come out from under the table once. He's letting me stroke him, but he won't come out for a cuddle. His eyes still look so odd with his third eyelids, but my sister's here all day with him so she's watching him.
The only thing we have to watch is Sheri (the younger, more stupid cat, LOL!). She keeps running past and bopping him on the head. :o)
I really hope he stays with us for as long as your lovely cat. Thanks again. x x x

Don'tknow if this will help but I had the same problem with one of my cats a couple of months ago and he is 18 years old. I noticed that every time I gave him Frontline he was really off for 3 or 4 days. I was very worried, I thought his number was up, anyway I have not used Frontline on him now for 2 months and he has perked up no end.
Thanks so much for all of your lovely mesaages. :o) x x x
Whiskey has perked up a lot! He seems almost back to his old self, except his third eye lids keep making an appearance for a few minutes every so often. So, I'm really happy! Thanks again, everyone.
Aww, pussnboots. I hope my Whiskey's around for as long as your lovely cat. x
