My children when they were young seemed to get lots and lots of presents, they had Grandparents and aunts and uncles then, and though never anything expensive, there was always plenty. As they have grown up, and we have lost so many of the family, it is now down to me to buy for them, but they are all grown ups and so they will get what they are given, my grandson has asked for a PS2 wrestling game which is 29.95, I shall get that for him but none of the others expect anything except us all to go to Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve and then a huge Christmas Dinner on the day. That's all that matters to them now they are older.
Personally I believe that children should get one big present at Christmas and lots of smaller stuff. They get lots from friends and relatives. What are the girls' parents buying them for Christmas? The other argument is that you only spend what you can afford and if it gives you pleasure to spend your money on them - it's up to you

OK no one seems to get the point of my Q. I was asking what would future kids Christmas list be in 20 years time. The fact that I choose to spend my money in a way that seems so disgusting to so many of you is amazing. There will be a lot of people on here who know absolutely where I am coming from. Just goes to show you ask a Q about reality in this day of very high tech stuff for kids and it prooves to be a forum for.......in the good old days.....Humbug.!!
In 20 years time pussnboots I should reckon it will be the latest gadgets still and the latest games or the funkiest shoes or clothes , we may be looking at a playstation 10 or some other console . Either way xmas will hopefully still be a time of good will to all . :-) xxx
Don't worry puss - I do know exactly what you mean!

I came from a big family & Mum usually bought us toys from jumble sales, but we were always very grateful for whatever we received.

However, times have changed & like you, we spend only what we can afford. As you say, God knows what it will be like in twenty years time! -xx-
Hi too bigmamma - was typing when you posted. -xx-
hi i know exactly how you feel my son is 9 on christmas day and i believe in keeping his birthday and christmas presents seperate so you can imagine how much i spend but he is worth it good on you
It's hard to imagine what it'll be like in 20 years time pussnboots. Though i expect it'll be pretty much the same as now, as bigmamma said it'll be the latest gadgets and games, that's if the PC brigade don't ban it before then lol :))
Hi smudge babes , you well ? :-) xxx
Hi again bigmamma - apart from a sore throat & a sinus headache, I'm okay thank you.

Hope your visit to the hospital goes/went okay. -xx-
Hi puss
I think i was trying to show how it had pretty much changed in my family from being a very expensive and materialistic event to being a more family orientated event for us. I don't think the cost of the gifts parents but these days has changed much in the last 20 years, we bought my son a stereo for 299 in 1987, my daughter had a ghetto blaster that I am sure cost over 100 in 1990, my youngest had David Beckham red boots when he was 11 and that was 10 years ago and they were 110. 4 years ago I bought one of them the tele I now have in our bedroom and that wasn't a cheap one. I think if you can, and you have someone to buy gifts for, that works ok.

Puss,

In 20 years time your granddaughters will be posting on here - Kids Today ! (lol)

It's the same for every generation but it seems we do not look back at ourselves, when we were wanting everything in sight for Christmas. Compared with today it may seem that we did not get as much stuff but I would think that parents spent much the same percentage of their wages when we were younger, as we are spending now.

I always spend more on Birthdays than I do at Christmas. The most I will spend on a person is 50. My grandchildren will have a main present and 10 box presents. I have boxes wrapped in xmas paper full of polystyrene and small pressies. Each child has to answer relatively easy questions correctly in order to pick a pressie from the box. Most of the pressies cost pence but the kids love it.
