In my list of folders in OE is one called Challenge. I have deleted it many times, but whenever I log in to read my emails it's back. There is nothing in it. I should add that my PC is very 'clean', and I update my antivirus program every day, I also have Spybot and Adaware, plus a firewall. Has anyone any idea what this folder is, and how to delete it once and for all ? I run Windows XP.
I've checked your suggestions, but can't find any reference to the wretched thing in Spamcop, or my Windows firewall. I don't think it's doing any harm, but it gets on my nerves. I've never tried Zone Alarm.
If you use MailFrontier, it is the folder that contains the mail that your program has 'challenged'. When you delete it, everytime you start your computer the program recognises that there is no challenge folder and puts in a new one.
I don't use Mailfrontier. I've recently started using Spamcop, and it's still learning. However, it has its own folders for definite spam and one it calls Unsure. All I can think of doing now is just emailing all the stuff I use to keep the PC clean, like AVG, Spamcop, Spybot and Adaware. I know from experience that emailing Microsoft doesn't ever help much.Oddly, though I have the same programs on my laptop the Challenge thing never appears.
Then the software executable must still be in your system. If you search the registry again, you should find the relevant exe file. You could also try CTRL+ALT+DELETE to get into Task Manager, to see if the mysterious application is showing in applications or processes.
