Rover 75 good buy or not?

I'm thinking of getting a rover 75 preferably with less than 60'000 miles on the clock. Can anyone advise me of reliability and are parts expensive or limited. Actually i like Alfa 156's too, same question.

Let me ask you this, do you wear slippers when driving?, do you have a pension book?, or maybe a nice tweed cap? You do? great, get a Rover 75. The name refers to the average age of the owners. They are well built and quite smooth to drive, and parts will be plentiful for ages, but they are also slow and excessivly retro in design. The V6 is very smooth and the diesel is quite refined too. But if you have any self respect and enjoy driving for its own sake rather than as a means of "getting from A to B" then go for the 156, an Alfa that you can buy with your head as well as your heart. The 2.0l twinspark is the pick of the bunch, and the JTD diesel engine is a very fine thing indeed.

I'd go with the Alfa although they are expensive to service and deappreciate a lot (my Italian colleagues avoid them too for some reason possibly over reliability issues).

The Rover 75 was designed when it was owned by BMW and when it was first launched it faired really well. But it all comes down to image... an Italian car or a old fashioned looking Rover.

unless you are the sort of person who needs the prop of buying a flashier motor than the neighbours , buy the rover ; it will be with you long after the alfa will be scrapped [ my company took the alfas off the company car list....guess why
the rover is vastly under -rated , the trouble was that BMW thought they could support 2 brands in the same market...BM/merc/jag/audi quattro

Well, lets see, there aren't too many Rover dealers around and the 75 is as has been mentioned here, a bit of a grandad car.

Now Alfa Romeo, just how deep are your pockets and how much time do you like spending in service receptions with very depressed humans? I've had an Alfa, and loved the car, but absolutely hated the company and dealers. Utterly rude and unprofessional. The cars are so pretty, but as far as I'm concerned, once bitten twice shy!

Only get the Alfa if it's very stupidly cheap, and put the difference away for Taxi's when the car is off the road.

I just replaced my Rover 825 with a 2 year old 75. There are some amazing bargains to be had. And some brand new left hand drive models if you fancy. Don't be put off by the style question One man's meat...

Youv'e probably done the deed by now but enjoy what you do get. That's the real issue

I'm 27 and i LOVE my Rover 75 - it's such a dream to drive - for the money it's a bargin. Comfort, effortless driving, no real problems day to day, quiet ride, smooth... it's great. Oh and it looks like it cost around �10k! (cost less than half that). Until you own and drive one, you'll never know.

The Alfa is a great looking car,however a colleague of mine owned one and spent �3000 on repairs in two years of owning it, most of them electrical faults. The alarm on them is very sensitive-I would rev up a forklift next to it and set the alarm off lol. He now has a V6 Rover 75! He bought that on my recommendation. I have a 75 cdti, 53 plate and apart from usual items-tyres etc I haven't had any problems with it. It's now done 80,270miles. Depends whether you want to buy with your head or your heart.
