i have found 3 P.M who died in office but not at 10 downing street. Spencer Percival - 1812. George Canning - 1827. Lord Palmerston -1865. The question reads who was the only British Prime minister to die in office in 10 Downing Street. so none of the fit. any ideas please,it is doing my head in. thanksT

It could mean that they were in office at 10 Downing Street, i.e. they were Prime Minister, but not that they were in the office at 10 Downing Street. To be in office is different to being actually on the premises.

if you interpret the clue to mean - died when serving as Prime Minister - you seem to have three possible answers?

perhaps, the clue has been worded 'sloppily' .... by using the word 'died' instead of 'killed' ?

Prime Minister Spencer Perceval was murdered in the House of Commons by a former convict in 1812. He is the only PM ever to have been killed while in office. His body was brought back to Number 10 to await burial.
