You can try poking a tiny piece of cotton wool under the nail where it contacts the skin and keep doing this until the nail has grown enough not to push into the skin. However, if it has been troublesome for some time and continues to be, I wouldn't hesitate to see the doc. My daughter had this and had to have both big toenails removed. It is done at outpatients dept and you're only in for a couple of hours, then home to rest up a few days. Well worth it if you're suffering permanently. Don't think it's trivial as these can be a real pain!
