DVD Writer Problem

bought a new DVD Writer this morning and installed it. However my PC will not start up with it installed.
I re installed my CD Writer and it started up mo problem.
What am I doing wrong. Your help is appreciated.

sounds to me like what is called a jumper problem--if the drive cable goes from the drive directly to the motherboard with nothing else connected to that cable then the jumper on the drive must be set to master--if there is something else on the same cable then one item has to be set to master and the other to slave--u cannot have 2 items on the same cable plugged in to the mother board with the same jumper settings--see her

CD/DVD are not ultra ... just ata (40w ribbon) ... so cable select (c\sel) won't work

1 device ... you will need a master .... and 2 slave

I have seen cheap drive cables that are not keyed (i.e. it's possible to plug them in upside-down. If you do that, the machine will not boot.

Thanks for the replies chaps. It was a jumper problem. All working now.
