Arnica for dogs post surgery
Hi there, has anyone given Arnica to their dog post surgery? my bitch is being spayed in a couple of weeks time and I had heard that if I start giving this just prior to surgery and afterwards it will help with the pain caused by bruising etc, I wanted to see if anyone had used it and what their thoughts were, ie. did it work?
Thanks.
Thanks.

She's coping really well with the pain, but that could be down to the Metacam she is on! It's hard to say whether the Arnica is helping as she can't tell me :O}....... that said her surgeon said it wouldn't do any harm! I'm giving her Boots 6c strength, they do do a higher strength, but I was told as her recovery time is expected to be about 6 weeks [she's still on three legs after 8 days.....bless], so the effect will build up. For a spey I would probably go for the higher ones, I think they are 30c. As a spey is more of a 'short sharp shock' so to speak I'd go for them. Also, make sure you OK there use with your vet.
Hope this helps.

Thanks divegirl, hope your dog is better soon.
My vet has already given the thumbs up, just wanted to see if anyone had used it to good effect. Will certainly get the higher strength, I also read somewhere that there are different types, I think it is Arnica Montana I need to get, will do a bit more research before buying.

Hi lankeela, yeah I have used the gel on my mutts before but not the tablets, I don't know why it is but I am worrying far more about this girl than any of my others, though possibly it's because I have decided that she will be my last German Shepherd, I'm getting older (hate admitting it) so will get smaller breeds in future.
