My Mum moved from Newcastle to Canada when she was a little girl. She recently found a tape... yes they still exist... with the Newcastle town song on it but you could barely make out the words. Does anyody know where I could find it on MP3? I think it is called Bladen Races... which I probably spelt wrong. (I want this to be hush hush because I want to use it as part of a gift or I would ask her how to spell it)
kimmiebear the song you want is the blaydon races a 19 th century ballad about horse races on the banks of the river tyne it is also known as the geordie anthem.been traditional it will covered by many folk singers. it may sound incomprehensible to none geordies but your mam will love

This is very interesting. I just found out today that my Great Grandfather wrote that song! I too would love to find the lyrics now.
All I have been told about it is was sung when miners walked from Newcastle to London when they had no work. I know this is an old post here. But if anyone has found the lyrics I would be most interested!!!
