Twinning towns and cities

What is the point of all these twinning agreements. What benefit is it to me as a council tax payer that my city is twinned with some place somewhere. What benefits do i get from this agreement. Is it just so that the council leaders can get a free jolly in a foreign part.

I agree with you wholeheartedly and I bet not many of us can name the town we are twinned with, I know I can't.  Its just a pointless waste of money.
