Continuos Wear Contact Lenses

I plan to start wearing contacts soon, and I was wondering if anyone has tried the continuous wear contact lenses. Are they comfortable? Would you recommend?

No I wouldn't. How old are you?
If you are over the ago of 24, and your no is high enough, you can get laser treatment done. Its costly but worth it. Unless you like wearing glasses and looking like a big old nerd ofcourse ;)

Or 71? IF you're only 17, you have to wait till u turn 24. Wear the NHS Specs n the meantime and save up for lasik. Its worth it, good luck

that's a whole 7 years! Doesn't sound like a lot but it is to me (7 years ago i was 10!)

Hi potterfan3, Im not sure what continuous wear contact lenses are, I have had monthly ones for the last twenty plus years and can rate them highly. My only advice is always go for your lense checks, I have them every six months and easy as it is don't be tempted to wear them any longer than your optician advises, its true you can damage your eyes. continuous wear lenses are ones you just put in and u dnt have to worry about them for a month. no cleaning or anything. u can sleep in them too....

I would recommend not starting with continuous wear lenses. Let your eyes get used to either monthly replacement or daily lenses and you get used to the handling regime. The healthiest option is to not wear contacts at all but lenses are a lot better than they used to be. go for either dailies or new silicon hydrogel monthly lenses. These are great for allowing oxygen to the cornea. Discuss all these with your optometrist.

I used to wear continuous wear contacts. They were pretty comfortable. My original optician told me to have a rest with them once a week though.

I stopped wearing them as I saw someone who had a bad infection due to their usage and almost lost their sight.

Although the risks are very minimal, I don't want to take the risk. I went onto one a day contacts but to be honest I now only use them for sports - I wear glasses day to day.

I have asked opticians (2 different ones) about both laser eye surgery and continuous wear and have been advised against both. Due to my prescription changing each year, I am not suitable for laser eye so I asked about the continuous wear contacts.

I was told that I could have them if I really wanted them but users of them are much more likely to have problems with their eyes. Basicaly if you are prone to anything, you are much more likely to get it with continuous wear than dailies (if that makes sense, the opticians described it much more coherently to me!)

Hi. I started wearing lenses when I was 16, and 13 years later I still wear them and my eyes are fine. In fact my optician said that lenses can actually help correct your sight to some degree, and delay further loss of sight. I would say never get the sort that you need to take out and clean, as it's a huge responsibility and if you're not good enough at cleaning them you can get infections. Daily disposables are good but expensive. I have continuos wear lenses and I think they're great. Speak to your optician about a free trial for both. Specsavers are good for this.

I don't wear contact continually. And only recently got them. But I have the daily disposables. I went to the Eye Clinic. I got 3 months worth (I only wear contact in one eye) as long sighted. But it worked out really cheap. If you set up a direct debit, you get all eye tests free, and I got 3 months lenses for �28.50. Thats including the examination, which cost �20
