I'm trying to find a song I listened to in the early eighties, I don't know the artist or the title and only know a few words can anyone help? the words I know are

'I see the ruins of pompei the painted statues turned to clay, I see the rise and fall of the cavalry'

and: 'Blue eyes blonde hair ?????? ???? everywhere'

Please help it's driving me nuts. The band sounded a little like Echo and the Bunnymen and Icicle works (but it's neither of them)

aarrggh!

One of the hazards of following these threads is that the 'driving me nuts syndrome' is occassionally infectious!!

That's my era, I should know this, Male singer, deepish voice, mid-tempo, synths......shame you couldn't hum a few bars!
Early 80s, sounds a bit like The Icicle Works or Echo and the Bunnymen. Hmmm...The Teardrop Explodes, perhaps? Just going with the Liverpool connection. No idea which song it might be though, and Googling the lyrics doesn't help. :-(.
'A Flock of Seagulls???"
Question Author
almost certain it's not flock of seagulls, but i'll check the teardrop explodes. Even checked the Cure and XTC that's how desperate I am lol, someone must know arrrrrrrg

Question Author
No definitely not Ian Dury but still haven't found who it is, have checked out most suggestions and will keep plodding on. I must check out the charts from that period and see if I can find it, i'm sure it was a fairly popular song
