Blood Doning

I am of the opinion that 'doning' as a word with reference to blood is so ingrained in the English language as to be an acceptable alternative to 'donating'. My flatmate says otherwise, and it's total nonsense.

What do you think? And has anyone got a dictionary to see if it's there -a big Oxford English if possible...

Doning not a word I'm sure. But when read what you'd put I knew exactly what you meant! Strange.

What's wrong with Donation ? Doning reeks of a neologism and donating is the present participle.

It comes under 'colloquial' in some dictionaries. However, I would stick to 'donating', as 'doning' doesn't come naturally to me.

Nevertheless, I totally agree with Zacsmaster, language is forever changing and adapting to modern usage, so no doubt 'doning' will become acceptable before too long.
