LOL mrmack, I have just started baking recently and mine do that too, I thought it was normal!!!! d'oh! I wonder if the oven is too hot, maybe the cake is cooking too quickly on the outside and then the inside expands and bursts it. I might try putting the cake lower down in the oven, wonder if that would help. I look forward to the answer.
The oven temperature is either too high or the cake batter was too dry.

Try lowering the oven temperature a notch and see what happens.
