i have a 96 mazda 626 automatic and lately it has been stalling. when i am at a redlight or just driving the car looses power.i hit the gas and nothing. i put the petal all the way to the floor, still nothing. then it will start to like putt along. after a while if i hit the gas it will eventually pick up speed again. today i had the same problem and it made a popping noise when i held the gas down. then my o/d buttton came on flashing saying o/d off..what can that be? sometimes when driving the car i also smelll gas...

well, with modern cars troubleshooting over the internet can be nearly impossible. the first/easiest thing would be to get a tuneup, plugs, wires, et cetera. it sounds like it's not getting full combustion, so next i'd get the coil pack checked. this can be done with a multi meter. recently i had to do that to my nephews 98 626. i got the instructions on how to do it by doing a web search for "coil pack test". the only other thing i can think of is it might be the engine computer, but i doubt it.
good luck
mike
