Anyone explain a wierd cat habit?

Any idea why my cat gets very interested whenever I file my nails?  She insists on nosing my hand out of the way and licking the emery board!

I suppose there must be something in the 'filings'....but what?

My old cat used to do the same. They do have rough tongues, so perhaps they like the same feel!

Our dogs can't wait for the farrier to leave and they fly down to the stables and start gobbling up the hoof trimmings he leaves behind. Goodness only knows what they get out of it - it usually makes them throw up later but they love it. I wonder if the cat is deriving simialr pleasure from nail filings?

My ginger cat comes running when he hears me filing my nails, and tries to get the emery board.  If he manages to get hold of one then he plays with it for hours.

And one of mine - all my emery boards are chewed!  Also had a cat who adored Deep Heat and would lick it off me if I had been using it!

My cat would try to lick my legs if i was wearing tights, they must like rough textures!

One of my cats loves emery boards too!  I thought she was just strange, but she's obviously in good company!!

Well maybe it's a bint thing then - our tom cat doesn't seem so bothered.......or maybe he's just old and lazy now!

At least she's no madder than the rest of puss-kind, but still no idea what gets 'em going in the nail shavings....

I was convinced my cat was mad, he's always has the emery board in his mouth. I have to keep buying new ones but he chews them up and rams them in his fat gob.

PS.  Ginger Cat also adores the smell of bleach and rolls on a newly washed floor if I have put a bit of bleach in the water.  He appears to be on a total high whilst he is doing it!!!!!!

P.S. My cat also used to sit by the fridge waiting for me to give her another plastic ring off the top of milk cartons. She used to wack them around the kitchen at great speed & after she died I found them all under the fridge, freezer & washing machine, etc. Ah!

Mine also loves playing with frozen veg cos they slide across the floor easily. Also had a thing for a rotten parsnip for ages, he kept dragging it back out of the bin and whacking it everywhere.

Some people release an ammonia type smell when filing nails .... like nail polish remover it is quite acrid, maybe the cat is attracted to that?

My cat loves chewing nail files, i think it's cos it's scratchy on their tongues or something!
