From the BBC site today ONLY:
I think they are really racist. Non-whites represent about 7 percent of England's population, yet most of the reports have coloured folk as baddies.
Why are the BBC so racist?

Not bad from the home page alone.
Never knew the BBC were so racist. It disgusts me. Will they take my complaint seriously?

It is a sad fact but in this age of political correctness one is reluctant, if not even persuaded not to state the true facts.
It is all down to genetics, peoples of Afican orign tend to be more aggressive and violent than most other nations.
Take Africa no matter how much help and money is thrown at it, it is still hovering in the middle ages. It is the general laid back attitude of it's people. No matter how much education they receive, and how much hardship they find themselves in they will still have countless children, who they cannot possible provide for.
If they have a well built for them to provide them with clean drinking water, they will use it until something goes wrong, and then instead of trying to maintain it themselves, they will allow it to revert back to providing polluted water. These are hard to accept facts but they are true.
African nations are always warring with each other. One tribe against another, and this attiude follows them into western civilisation, one gang against another.
Africa receives more aid than any other nation. This aid, including education, medical facilities, and general help in building up their general infastructure, is all provided courtesy of the white western nations, and carried out by white volunteer workers.

I have written a post half a dozen times and scrubbed them all out, I can not account for such wilful ignorance.
All I can say is
I was always in your fan club, have worn a tee shirt with your picture on it with pride
but after this post, the fact you still have a good sense of humor (or are you laughing at them, rather than with them) results in me having to become your no1 admirer (don't let CD know she will be jealous)

SP, for reasons I won't go into, I don't go with the excuse of poor housing, or of poor beginnings, but I do agree that children need positive role models, and you are living proof that discipline in the home - and from a young age - is the deciding factor. Opportunity is there for children, but without proper guidance, sadly, it is often missed, and peer pressure takes precedence. Incidentally, I too would have been wary of overstepping the line because I'd have been in even worse trouble at home than I would have been at school - and as you say, that would have been a pretty scary prospect!
Dassie, failing schools fail because not only do they have to cope with children speaking a multitude of languages, but staff often receive little or no support. If a teacher disciplines a pupil, the chances are he/she will receive a visit from an irate parent and a punch on the nose - followed by a dressing down - or worse - from the school governors. And what message does that send to young people? We can do what we want, no matter how obnoxiously we behave, and there is no come-back because we're never wrong - and we have a good excuse anyway - we're underprivileged and the world owes us a living. Teaching in such a school is a thankless and soul-destroying task.

How dare you not provide an answer to one of the posters here.
Are you not our token black person, are you not the expert on black issues, are you not accountable for the actions of every black person in the world?
I am shocked and appalled that you personally can not provide an analysis and explanation for all aspects of black human endeavour.
Come come surely we should expect more of you.
Bye way its Beatrix Campbell I was referring to earlier. I didn't' warn you earlier but she is a (feminist), so some people think those are a bit odd - personally I love feminist left wingers.

naomi I will have to take a little issue with you over the maturity comment aimed at ruby. Ruby is without a doubt one of the most intelligent people I know, I don't always agree with her (don't tell her) and there are several things she's just plain wrong about (including being Splats number one fan) but her maturity and intelligence is not something I would question.
Ruby does have a zanny sense of humour which I rather like and it is perhaps that that led to your questioning her maturity rather than anything else.
Apologies for picking you up over this when I know Rube's is more than capable of sticking up for herself but I found your comment rather personal and very cutting. I hope we can still be pixelly on good terms despite my advocation of Ruby.

China, you're entitled to your opinion as we all are. If people disagree with me, I never take it personally (even if it's meant personally!!), so no worries there.
To answer your post, I don't call sarcasm either humorous or intelligent - I call it the very lowest form of wit. Ruby was clearly attempting to undermine and ridicule other contributors here, and in doing so she made it patently obvious that she had nothing sensible or mature to say. In my opinion, that's a very childish way to behave.

I think it was less sarcasm and more irony/satire intended by ruby. A way of deriding opinions she no doubts considers not very sensible too.
It could also be true to say that just because a persons sense of humour leans that way does not mean that getting personal about their maturity is also a way forwards. Rather better to stick to the debate and deride her opinion than a part of her nature that you may or may not have no knowledge over.
I'm glad you're not taking this personally, it's not meant to be. Just making a stab at a putting this back to a level playing field as both yourself and ruby often have interestiing and intelligent views even if I do not always agree.
