how do small snails survive to grow into large one in my garden?

The same as they do in mine, darn them, they eat everything edible despite treatment, sorry folks but I put down snail pellets.   They do have a preference for hostas and french marigolds.   I no longer put them in after three years of trying.

Snails used to gnaw their way though all my lovely hosta plants - that was until I started placing the pots on flat bottomed, upturned, green wire hanging baskets. In the last three years of doing this, they've all bloomed successfully because the snails can't climb up & get their chops on them! Ha, ha!

Don,t be too sure Smudge.   I put sharp grit round some of my more precious plants thinking they would hurt their slimy tummies, no way, they got through!

Ember - Little blighters, it doesn't give you any insentive when they are so determined to damage everything in site! We did put pellets in the pots, but the snails still nibbled the leaves. Doing what I previously said seems to have done the job, as we haven't found one damaged hosta since! Perhaps you could give it a try - you never know until you've tried it - as they say. Good luck!

Put some beer out for them, they get drunk and fall in and drown. That might just be folklore, I've never tried it.

Doesn't anyone else feel sorry for the snails?! They gotta eat you know! :)
