Thanks both.

Think it's SPANS for the other, but I don't get the word play. It has to be KEY UP too.
Agree with spans . Archaic past tense of spin , and sans around p .
Hi greyfox

Glad to help with one of your queries but could I ask what you decided upon for 24a Carib speak?

Thanks

Another one I wasn't sure about kayakamina. Again I don't understand the wordplay, but the two very similar options for me(using Chambers) were Backra or Buckra - I went for the former as it had a plural which seemed to fit better. Would be interested to hear the true derivation.
Thanks for that. You forced me to have another look at the clue and I now see that 'I pen is' removed from Carib-speak gives you Backra- A white.
Now I can relax.

Cheers K
