How long between hair dye and highlights
Hi, I'm at the hairdressers on Thursday for a cut and highlights. But i want to dye my hair before i go, to make it look fresher. Is there a certain length of time which you need to leave between a hair dye and highlights. Thanks

do you have any products in your hair already i.e a previous dye have you had had highlights in this salon before?
Have you had your hair test and allergy test and incompactabitly, strand and porosity tests these are all important,
Which hair dye are you going to use to "freshen" your hair
you cannot just pick up a dye apply and get the look you want you need to consider the condition of you hair which the above tests i have mentioned will help with
Basically depending on how porous you hair is and the quality of the hair cuticle depends on how well you hair will dye,,,,,,,to conclude i should have a consultation with your hairdresser which she/he should offer anyway to determine what you are hoping to achieve.
If you have been going to this hair dresser and have never had a porosity test allergy test strand and incompactability test you should be asking yourself why not as these tests are important for you so you can see how well you hair can be "lifted" incolour otherwise you could just be paying good money for a bog standard cut and colour
hope thats not too long winded for a simple question lol
i have a diploma in barbering and styling also in colour managment

HI, thanks for your reply. I have had my hair coloured and highlighted several times before. But i have never had them both together. If this makes sense. I used to be blonde and had highlights on a regular basis, I then went brown and have always coloured my own hair since. I fancy a change now, thats why i have decided to have some highlights, If i do dye my hair tonight, would the highlights take ok or does this depend on the hair its self. Thanks again

No i don't think there is. My friend had her hair highlighted and decided to go brunette for a change. She went to her hairdresser and got it brunette and hated it! So she went back the next day and they were able to re-highlight it so that she was blonde again!
