Contraceptive Implant

Just wondering if anyone has used the contraceptive implant and how you found it, ie were your periods irregular or were they lighter etc, any side effects etc? Doctor is trying to persuade me to go for this but wanted reviews from people who've actually used it - and nobody I know has !!

Never used it myself but my sister did when her and hubby ( hers not mine!) went travelling. She had no periods with it and it took a while for them to return afterwards so i suppose it depends on your plans re: children if it suits you. Cannot remember her complaining of any side effects but as i said she was travelling at the time so wasn't 1st question i asked her when she called !!

hi, I have used implanon now for nearly 4 years and have had no probs at all. Shortly after having it put in I have a light period then thats it for around 2 years!! I have had it replaced once as well and do not as yet have periods again.

I have had my third implant fitted this year and think its great. I still get a monthly bleed every month but a very light one and only lasts a few days. I find it takes about 3 months to settle in properly and during that 3 months I have a lot of spotting but again very light . Occassionally I get the odd blip and have a longer bleed up to about 10 days weeks. but this only happens every 8 months or so. At first it used to worry me when that happened but I now seem to know the pattern so don't let it bother me as I now it will stop. I think they are great. I don' t get any other side effects. All contraception has its problems for different people. Don't read too many horror stories about the implant and give it a go if you think its right for you but give it a reasonable amount of time to settle in. As I said I'm on my third one it works for me and I will go on using them. I do know of other people that have had no periods at all with their implant. Hope it works for you if its what you choose.
