i very much doubt it, thats why its called a contract, you could always phone o2 and explain the situation they may be sympathetic to you
They won't cancel the contract, the best thing for you to do is stop using it and reduce the contract to the lowest tariff till your back on your feet.
im a stikler for contracts so am pretty sure that your find by phoning the company yes you can cancel the contract but for the remaining months of 5 months left you will have to pay the low tarriff rate.the best thing is probably reduce the bill to the lowest tarriff and only use it for incoming calls which will reduce tremendasly.hope this helps
the small print states that if you cancel early you must pay the monthly subscription charges up to the end of the contract, but as stated above they could be sympathetic to your cause if you call them and explain your situation.

Good Luck x
