If nothing can travel faster than the speed of light how come most of the universe was created within 3 minutes of the big bang starting, surely things must have been moving faster than the speed of light, apologies to those of you in the know, if this is a very naive perspective.

well if there was nothing to expand into light obviously hadn't come into existence yet - nor had the concept of speed as you can only measure this against something else so.... um .... i've confused myself ... its all impossible ... BUT first there was the word etc

Light speed is only the theoretical speed limit of the universe. The classic definition is Einstein's speed of light through a vacuum (C). Light eminating from a laser can travel through Ceasium at 300 x C. There is also the phenomenon of Cherenkov Radiation. This is where electrons drop photons when they travel thus moving faster than light. A kind of light sonic boom.

There is also the inflationary bootstrap to consider.  And the speed of light is pretty quick, akshly, so 3 minutes is plenty of time to create a big space for loads of stuff to fit in.  WVNBIVDB
