18d Commence?

In Chambers it says ..
commencement : at certain universities the act of taking a degree (esp US)
Idahoan. I had to change 'serpens' to serpent' which makes the angel a 'throne', if this makes sense?
17a Seraph
Sarumites 'commence' is correct.
I was going to suggest "Throne" for angel but according to the following site a throne is an angel of the first order!

I came across this in a ref to the catholic church......"Thrones (from the Old Testament description) as the third Order of the first sphere".

Could you please explain thanks
Sorry to take so long to reply - I'd googled the letters on www.one-look.com and Idahoan (Idaho Panhandle) was only one to fit. Been checking to see if there was an Idaho town etc in WV. Do you think they've misprinted 'west virginia'? Sorry if I've mislead you and hope someone can solve it.
Question Author
They have possibly misprinted it but I find the author of this crossword puts in some strange clues.
Have a look atwww.com/states/tables/st_nicks.htm
You will find under West Virginia they mention Little Ida
Thats all I could find but many thanks for all your help
Strange clues - understatement! Good luck on finishing.
