in case anyone hasnt gessed yet. i enjoy spouting about being celtic because i was born and raised in the south wales valleys. i now live in new zealand and have KELTIK as my plate on my car. can anyone tell me what tribe i may be from or give me some interesting celtic facts to impress kiwis with.

There are not nor ever have been any Celts indigenous to Britain or Ireland. Unlike France where true Celtic tribes existed, 'Celtic' was just used to describe ancient British languages and has led to this common misconception - most historians, acrchaeologists and antiquarians will tell you this. Unfortunately we know precious little about individual tribes but to find out more about the prehistoric people of the British Isles I would recommend Julian Cope's "The Modern Antiquarian" (about thirty quid on Amazon) as an ideal starting point.

Technically you're right, Beale. But realisticaly Celt has now got a new meaning, and is very firmly attached to the Welsh, Cornish, Irish, Breton and Scots cultures of NW Europe -- whatever their origins. They do all share a common language family, and what else are you going to call that? Incidentally, the origin of the language and culture is thought to be somewhat independent from the blood-descent -- so many English" people are probably largely "Celtic" by blood, and Welsh people are quite likely to be mainly "pre-Celt". Everyone is mixed up really... Allie1234cat -- The Picts were Scotland, not Wales, and I'm not even sure if they were Celts at all. Cymru am Byth, too (and yes, that's correctly spelt).

ok.....i feel obliged to say thanks even for the useless degrading answers because, well they gave me a laugh. I dont believe im in need of a spell checker, just more time to waste checking it myself. So the final word that im looking for is if im asked which tribe i came from....and yes i do know how irrelevant and stupid that question would be....what can i answer?
