Can anyboby help me to identify whats wrong with my central heating.upstairs radiators are all working but downstairs are not.The pump seems to be working, all rad's are turned on, all stats are ok, iv'e bled about 2 pints out of each bottom rad, the only thing that may be faulty is the diverter valve but if that were broken there wouldn't be any heat in the upstairs rad's ...would there?
Thanks in advance

if you have a diverter valve then presumably you have a traditional heating system with tanks, cylinders etc
it could be that your system is split with valves into different zones as my system is at home i.e. i can have my upstairs and downstairs radiators operating independantly of each other, both with their own timers. zone valves are similair to diverter valves and it sounds like yours may need replacing.

Thanks for an answer Gucciman....unfortunately there is only one diverter valve = (for radiators or for hot water tank) i think? I have only recently purchased this house so i am a bit unsure of how it works.
I have just had the same problem and it turns out there is a blockage in the pipes between the upstairs and downstairs. It could be that your system needs a power flush, but if the radiators are not getting hot at all it is more likely a blockage or the valve as you have already mentioned.
My sister had this problem and she called in a plumber - he flushed all the radiators through with some sort of chemical...the stuff that came out was like mud...He said its a mixture of rust and dirt...All her radiators are working fine now...
