Can you list some things invented by women? This came up on tv, and I'm stumped! (Not a sexist rant btw - genuinely interested)

For years and years a womans place was in the home. They often weren't allowed to be educated to the standard of men. But how many great novels were first mascaraded under male pseudonym to make the sales. So how many of those thousands of male inventions were really designed by their wives? Im not saying it did happen but its certainly a possibility when women weren't taken seriously.

J.K. Rowling must I say more. OK her invention of Harry Potter was not what you meant, but some of the women who have made great wealth through writing fiction is vast.

Well into the Victorian era, women were considered to be both mentally and physically inferior to men-the male establishment would have been horrified by the idea of any women stepping outside the percieved constrictions of their minds and bodies.The earliest female medical students had their work sabotaged by their male collegues.With families of 8-12 or more children -who had time to invent??? Needless to say - women are NOT the weaker sex...the uterus is the strongest muscle and the average man would never tolerate the pain of childbirth!!

Sorry Goodsoulette, but I've not heard of one of them so I reckon it's highly improbable.
Those authors that puss_boots reeled off are all rubbish too.
Big up Marie Curie though, nobody's even mentioned her and her inventions/discoveries have probably helped more people than the rest of them put together.
I think the list of patents that was posted early on is a bit dubious though, the car heater really sounds to me like it was invented by the bloke and he credited it to the wife for suggesting the idea. A couple of the other ones sound quite tenuous to me too. Sorry, I just can't get my head round big butch women inventing circular saws and such like, back in the day, just can't imagine them being solely responsible for it, I know women are very creative but I reckon they were given credit for a lot of those ideas rather than the actual construction of the first prototypes. Depends how you perceive invention.
