My son has asked for a moped for Christmas.....he's 17 and has a provisional licence. Apart from insurance what else will he need to ride it with L plates on? Does he need to sit a test??? Thanks in advance

if he intends to get a motorcycle (with gears) then he can do his CBT on one, it will give him a better idea of how to control the machine rather than doing it on a 50cc twist and go moped. The cost should be the same.
Either will do and he could ride a motorcycle upto 125cc after passing the CBT on an automatic but I would recomend the bike with gears for the test if there is a possibility he will want to ride one afterwards
My wife and I both have full bike license and my son passed his CBT on a geared 125 but then chose to buy a 125 vespa!
Hope he enjoys his new found freedom.
Good luck
