sixpence, that's what I used to get when I had a paper round, I did mine on foot too, though it was 1968. you could check that website there is to see what the equivalent is

When i was a paper boy i got over �100 pound (that was altogether) most gave a �5 and that was some 25 years ago....

sounds like your turning french giving money to anyone who calls at your door! i don't see why you should as they get paid for what they do and you've already paid for your papers!
