Not with you, what do you mean a stoothing wall?
Sorry I should have asked what type is it, is it the old lath and plaster or is it boarded?
If you mean a studding wall, you can get dry lining boxes which are fitted in a accurately cut square hole and lock into place
Question Author
It is the old lath and plaster walls. @ year 1880
Right then, The only way I have ever fitted flush boxes into a lath and plaster wall is to find one of the uprights, place the metal box dead centre and gently chip the old lime mix away, you will have to break the laths across the uprights but they should then push into the hoillow bit either side, chisel the upright away with really sharp wood chisel, the problem with this way is of course that the sockets may not be in the exact position you want them
Or you can get a padsaw and just cut the box shape in between the uprights and fill the hole with bonding and push metal box into the bonding, this way you can place the sockets on any part of the wall, The dry lining boxes are not suitable for lath and plaster, hope this is of some help to you, good luck, Ray
