bhp increase resistor
you may have seen these on ebay, a cheap mod that can apparently increase the power of your engine by up to 5bhp you fit them by replacing the inlet air temp (IAT) sensor or engine coolant sensor with an electrical resistor...
- do these actually work??
- if so, how do they work??
thanks, graeme

I bought one for my Fathers 1.4 Astra and it did make a noticable difference. Only a small one, but as I said, it only cost five quid, and took about ten minutes to fit, so he was happy. Difficult to measure a small BHP increase without a dyno, but the car seemed to pick up better, and be a little crisper in acelleration. No way was it producing more power than the engine could cope with, and on a second-hand car there was no warranty worries anyway. Besides, it comes off as easy as it goes on, with no trace it was ever fitted ;-)

I got one for my honda i used to own and it did make a difference. I had a proformance air filter on mine and u could tell from the change in the noise of air being sucked in. They work by telling the ecu that there is a constant flow of cold air coming in so the ecu pumps the max amount of fuel in even at low revs so the pick up is quicker.
