Can you become an airline pilot with colour blindness?

Hello I love aviation and want to become a pilot but I am coloured blind. I can tell colours though like blue, green, red, white, black and many others. Can I still become one?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Years ago there was no way you could get a licence unless you could somehow hide the fact, however nowadays the answer is yes, as you can fly to a PPL level license with colour blindness. For commercial flying each case is treated on it's own merits, you would require the advice of an aviation medical expert.
The British Airline Pilots' Association website provides plenty of information about becoming an airline pilot. With regard to colour blindness it states "colour blindness is not automatically disbarring providing you can pass acceptable colour perception tests (predominately Red/Green perception)":
