17a Dad

31a Cobb
37d Tadjik
I can't see that Dad is a dialect word for thump as well as father.

Ithink PAW is more like it.
Chambers indicates ...

Dad (dialect) to throw against something, to dash, thump.
I should trust the British dictionary - not the American encarta
I have the OED of some years nut it isn't listed in there.
Hello...17a is POP
dad is a northern or scottish word meaning thump or blow
so dad is the answer

my last post was wrong...I had skalio for 7d..which should be skalia......giving DAD for 17a
ans to 7d is skolia
7 down is skolio so 17 across must be pop! 31 across I think is cobb but cannot confirm that. Someone has already posted the answer to 37 down as tadlik.
My apologies Ricardo. The answer to 37 down is TADJIK not TADLIK. They are inhabitants of Tajikistan. Also I have confirmed that COBB is correct,
Some confusion over 7d and 17 across, I see. I agree with Sarumite and Callboy.

7d is DEFINATELY Skolia. This is the plural (skolio must be the singular). As the question states 'drinking songS, Skolia is correct.

DAD is a dialect for thump (from Shetland, I think.) Since when have you thumped a balloon to burst it?? (for those of you who think pop is the correct answer!)
