Further to my question below ... would I be better selling quality gold jewellery ... possibly out of fashion at the moment tho ... at an auction or to a secondhand jewellery shop ?

If you take your jewellery to an auction house they will give you an idea what it will fetch at auction.
If you take it to a jewellers they will only give you the scrap weight of the gold.
You could have a look on Ebay to see what similar items sell for.
unfortunately if its 9ct gold its not worth a lot, I only found this out when I lived in Dubai they called it "sh*t gold" an would have none of it. If you look back on our grand & great grand parents they only bought 18 or 24 carat,as all Asians do now, the 9ct I believe was brought in during the last war because there was a shortage of gold [ correct me if I am wrong about this], there is a 50 something woman who lives near me who has so many 9ct chains around her neck she looks like a permanent lit up xmas tree and she thinks she is worth a fortune, if she only knew the resale value is practically nil.
Good luck with the sale, have you thought about getting it valued at auction and then selling it on e-bay ?
