Locked out of XP PRO
4 Answers
I recently decided to upgrade my sevice pack to SP2. The process went fine but then on reboot i ended up being locked out.
I suspect the problem is down to Kasperspy antivirus which has got installed on my computer. It seems to be stopping Windows from checking my registration key.
I can't boot in safe mode because i've pressedF8 at startup and it doesn't work. The only two keys thast work when i boot up are DEL and ESC.
Please help, i've got some work on my computer that needs to be in the bosses hands by tomorrow!

The machine will take a long time to reboot after installation of SP2, and probably just show a blue desktop with no icons while it finishes the process.
I've never heard of Windows locking you out (whatever it means) because it can't check your registration. Normally, you would get a message and the opportunity to re-activate.

The other thing you should be aware of is that the Del and/or Escape keys are active suring the post test and will take you to the BIOS settings. The F8 key needs to be pressed AFTER the post test during the loading of Windows itself. I usually until after the BIOS splash screen disappears and then start rapidly tapping F8 until I get the boot menu.
